Granite Rapid (8), at river mile 93.9, can be scouted from a small balcony at the back of Granite Camp, or by walking along the river left shore at the rapid. Rocks on river left force the river current to the right and into Vishnu Schist cliffs on river current to the right. The water rebounds off this cliff into more water moving to the right. A large ridge of pulsing lateral waves moves down the right side of the rapid. At the foot of the rapid in mid-channel is a large hole. A good run is to ride down the ridge top of laterals, going just right of the hole at the bottom while avoiding the wall on the far right. At the foot of the rapid a large eddy is on river right. At water levels above 10,000 cfs, a small, navigable channel exits the river bottom of this eddy.
