Ross Wheeler Camp is a small beach camp on the left at river mile 108.4. backpackers often camp here. The Ross Wheeler, on the rocks at the downstream end of the camp, was built y Bert Loper in 1914. This small, tippy, and very heavy boat was used by Charles Russell, August Tadje and Leslie Clement in a failed attempt to run the canyon in 1915. The group abandoned the boat, and it was later used here by William Bass to Ferry back and forth across the river
